Background story<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A divemaster was guiding a group of relatively inexperienced divers on a tropical dive. The divers, used to colder freshwater lakes, expected to need more weight in seawater. However, the divemaster explained they would likely need less weight due to wearing thinner wetsuits and advised them to do a buoyancy check before descending.<\/p>\n

During the dive, one diver used his air much faster than the others. Knowing air consumption increases with depth, the divemaster led the group to a shallower depth to extend the dive time.<\/p>\n

After the dive, a diver reported feeling dizzy during the dive. The divemaster suspected CO2 buildup and advised the diver to breathe slowly and deeply. Following this advice, the diver had no further issues on the next dives.<\/p>\n

The above story shows some great examples of using dive theory knowledge in practical diving situations. The divemaster used his knowledge to solve and avoid several small problems for his customers.<\/p>\n

This Dive theory course provides a foundation of knowledge that allows instructors and divemasters to effectively teach, solve problems, and ensure the safety of their customers.<\/p>\n

While reading, you may also have noticed that you actually have quite a bit of theory knowledge already. This course will be expanding on the knowledge that you gained in your Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue Divers courses.<\/p>\n

Research shows that having expert knowledge makes you better equipped to make decisions, solve problems, and offer accurate answers. Deep knowledge of dive theory gives you access to a large \u201ctoolbox\u201d of solutions.<\/p>\n

    Not all knowledge may seem to have an immediate, practical value. You will accumulate information that you may not need right away, but this knowledge is valuable nonetheless.<\/p>\n

    It\u2019s like stocking a toolbox with tools. You might not need it today but you will be glad to have it when the right situation arises.<\/p>\n

    For diving professionals, dive theory is like a toolbox. It\u2019s there to solve and prevent problems, even if the exact reason for its use isn\u2019t clear yet.<\/p>\n
